About the Role
ABC News continues to be Australia’s number one choice for online News and Analysis. As the Technical Lead of News Web, this role leads a group of highly skilled front end and quality assurance engineers, working closely with colleagues across Design, Product Management and content, as well as other engineering team to continually improve and develop the News Digital experience for our audiences. Working on a modern tech stack (primarily based around Node/React/NextJS), the Technical Lead’s role is to ensure that the quality of experience for users matches the high quality of our content, and to guide and support their team in achieving these goals.
You'll be the highest level of reference for technical specialist advice and will communicate and promote best industry practices to other engineers, to ensure adherence to appropriate practices throughout development teams.
You'll define, develop and manage the development of processes and methodologies used within the team, including working with the wider Digital Products Infrastructure teams, to drive the creation and management of development, build and test environments.
You have the drive and personality to foster an open and creative approach within and across teams with technical leadership and you will also have a strong attention to detail and proven ability to prioritise tasks working to tight deadlines. The success of the role will be dependent upon your ability to demonstrate:
- Expert knowledge and experience in assessing, selecting and using modern frameworks and build tools, implementing automated/unit testing, and version control branching, merging and versioning strategies.
- Significant experience in leading and managing technical development teams.
- Highly developed interpersonal, communication, planning and organisational skills with the proven ability to work effectively under pressure to meet tight deadlines.
