    About the role

    The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for providing onsite and offsite network support for our clients’ environment. You are expected to provide exceptional levels of service and assistance to rectify and solve issues as they are reported. This will be achieved by your ability to work across variety of teams to provide high-level technical support for data network systems, including an ability to create and maintain network documentation, maintains hardware and software standards.

    To be successful in this role, you must have a broad and comprehensive knowledge of Network Infrastructure including demonstrated skills and experience in:

    • Engineering and administration of multiprotocol routers, multilayer switches, network security devices and network management systems
    • Contributing to continuous improvement of Security processes and strategies that identify and help implement tools for better vulnerability management and tracking
    • Providing technical solutions through project delivery and design teams to contribute continuous improvement of designing technical solutions to meet operational needs

    In additional to your technical expertise, you will be a strong team player and an open and effective communicator with the ability to work autonomously and contribute to overall team outcomes. The nature of this role will suit a person who works with a sense of urgency and has a proactive work ethic.

    Preferred candidates will be CCNP qualified and will have had hands-on experience in Switching, Routing, Firewalling and Load Balancing.

    This role will be supporting our Federal Government clients and therefore to be successful in this role it is compulsory that you are an Australian Citizen and you must be eligible to pass an Australian Government Security Clearance. Candidates with current NV1, NV2 or OSA will be preferred.

    What are your key responsibilities as a Technical Lead?

    • Administration of several UNIX/Linux based operating systems (Linux: SuSE, CentOS/RHEL, Ubuntu) and Microsoft Windows platforms (e.g., Windows Server 2019+). 
    • Plan, deploy, implement and continually review security posture, capability and implementation to ensure applications and platforms adhere to best practice and are in line with Information Security Policy and Guidelines. 
    • Be available during critical incidents or other emergencies to assist with resolution 
    • Resolve technical problems reported by users and team members via the service desk or other escalation paths, with assistance, where necessary of more experienced staff or vendors. 
    • Documentation of procedures, process, systems, platforms in consolidated and unified platforms for organisational knowledge repositories, for both technical and non-technical audiences. 
    • Contribute to the development and delivery of training programs. 
    • Participate and contribute in federation-wide activities including technical forums, upgrade activities, and technical support for the research cloud’s distributed help desk. 
    • Demonstrate astute judgement, lateral thinking, and excellent problem-solving abilities in all aspects of the role. 

    SELECTION CRITERIA 

    Essential

    • An undergraduate bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology with a major in information systems, software engineering or a related discipline is required to undertake this role with at least four (4) years subsequent experience. 
    • Knowledge and experience in the use of cloud computing and virtualisation technologies 
    • Knowledge and experience with the OpenStack projects, particularly Nova, Cinder, Glance, Swift, and Neutron. 
    • Knowledge and experience with KVM hypervisors. 
    • A functional understanding of networking technologies and protocols (ethernet, TCP, software defined networks) 
    • Good knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals. 
    • A solid practical and functional understanding of systems administration principles ranging from Linux administration through to advanced topics such as security hardening, kernel tuning and optimisation of the operating system environmental variables. 
    • Practical skills in software engineering and programming languages (Python, Perl, C, Go, bash, etc.). 
    • Demonstrated experience in effective programming and scripting in a systems administration environment, including experience in automating systems administration tasks  
    • Creative thinking capability with a combination of excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with clients by telephone, email and in person. 
    • Ability to prioritise own workload, work both in a team environment and independently, and meet deadlines. 

    Desirable

    • Practitioner and expert level skills in cloud platforms (e.g. Azure or OpenStack).
    • Knowledge of Unix or Linux.
    • Knowledge of Kubernetes.
    • Knowledge of deployment of other relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL).
    • Knowledge of programming languages (e.g. C#).
    • Understanding of hierarchical storage management, concepts in caching and data hierarchy for large scale storage.

    You’ll be working as a full-stack Ruby on Rails engineer on our platform known as Lookout. Lookout is a Ruby on Rails app. We structure our work around projects and you’ll focus on one project at a time.     We are looking for a Full Stack Developer – Networks to join our Networks Operations team in Melbourne, Adelaide or Perth. We build, create and innovate solutions focused on helping our customers improve speed and accuracy of changes; reduce manual work and remove networking tool issues

    This role will suit someone with developer coding skills and networks/IT experience, as a best of both worlds. This role will involve working on building a specific tool/platform for automating access to customers. Your initial focus for 12 months will be working in a small, focused team on a single project. Past the initial 12 month’s we’ll be looking at the support of the created platform.

    What you’ll bring

    Core Coding skills and experience required:

    • Django (Python), Django Rest Framework, Django Background Processing using Celery
    • Docker
    • Angular 9+
    • REST API integration to Security/Network and other systems
    • Fullstack Agile development environment
    • Experience with modern web technologies (such as Angular, Node, TypeScript, HTML5, etc.) Emphasis on Angular/TypeScript
    • coding automation tests in a web application environment (pytest etc.)
    • Exposure to RESTAPI, web applications testing like Postman etc.
    • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools especially Git, Gitlab code management and deployment practice
    • Strong working knowledge of CSS, including CSS driven layout
    • Experience with browser development tools.
    • Strong working knowledge of JavaScript, AJAX and JavaScript frameworks (e. g., jQuery, prototype)

    Solid understanding and experience within Network environments:

    • Understanding of Networking principles and practical application.
    • Knowledge of networking protocols such as routing protocols and IPSEC
    • Strong knowledge of Fortinet firewalls and their API
    • Experience with IP address management (php IPAM), NAT and PAT.
