Queensland women in technology and life sciences sparkled at the 18th annual Women in Technology Awards on Friday 28 August at the Royal International Convention Centre.
More than 300 people attended the prestigious awards to be inspired by Queensland’s talented women making a difference in technology and life sciences.
The awards, now in their 18th year, were a massive success with nominations up 50% across nine award categories.
Every year the awards grow – in status, nominations, support from sponsors and attendees.
The professionalism, intelligence and ambition of these women is just extraordinary. From pioneering lifesaving medical research, developing vaccines and medicines, to driving global conservation and running successful and innovative businesses these women are leading the way in technology and life sciences.
The judges had the challenging job of selecting just nine winners from 30 amazing finalists.

Minister for Science and Innovation Leeanne Enoch has announced two new funding programs as part of the $180 million Advance Queensland program.
Advance Queensland PhD Scholarships program
Speaking at the opening of the inaugural Life Sciences Queensland gala on 15 August, Minister Enoch said the Advance Queensland PhD Scholarships program would provide $1.9 million over 3 years to support undergraduates in gaining a research PhD degree.
The program provides top-up funding of up to $45,000 over 3 years for scholars to undertake an applied PhD research project.
Advance Queensland Women’s Academic Fund
Minister Enoch announced the $1 million Advance Queensland Women’s Academic Fund at the Smashing the Glass Ceiling: Women in Queensland science event at the State Library on 16 August.
The 3-year funding program will support women researchers in Queensland to maintain their research careers and support Queensland organisations in promoting the achievements of their women researchers. It will allow up to:

$25,000 for a female researcher going on maternity leave to employ another researcher or a research assistant

$1000 to fund any relevant out-of-pocket child care or respite care expenses if a female researcher has to take time away to present at a national or international conference or is sitting on a professional research committee

$2000 to organisations to arrange conferences, lectures or presentations to highlight the work of leading Queensland women researchers.
