Last WiT Tour of 2015
The Eskitis Institute for Drug Discover, Griffith University
If you've been on a previous tour, you'll know how fascinating and rewarding they have been!
Come Along to…..the Eskitis Institute
The Eskitis Institute for Drug Discovery is a flagship research institute at Griffith University, focused on developing new therapies to improve health across the globe suffering from:
• Infectious disease
• Cancer
• Neurological disease
Eskitis research programs are based on and supported by unique core resources and an advanced equipment base, which includes:
• Nature Bank
• Compounds Australia
• Discovery Biology
Nature Bank is a storehouse of chemical diversity from the natural world. Nature Bank is an integrated drug discovery platform encompassing a library of over 200,000 optimised natural product fractions derived from a diverse collection of over 63,000 samples of plants and marine invertebrates.
Compounds Australia is Australia's only dedicated compound management facility. It is a national resource that allows chemists to deposit small molecules into a central repository for quick and efficient access by life science research teams.
Discovery Biology undertakes both basic and applied research in drug discovery, primarily in the areas of cancer and neglected diseases. Discovery Biology develops innovative technological approaches for high throughput screening, Hit-to-Lead and lead optimization, with a focus on imaging.
The Eskitis Institute has approximately 100 researchers concentrating on cancer, infectious disease and neurological disease.
Some of Eskitis’ most current and exciting research will be presented in Short-form presentations prior to the Tour of the Nature Bank and Compounds Australia including:
Natural Product Drugs and Malaria - Associate Professor Kathy Andrews
|
High Content Imaging for Drug Discovery - Dr Todd Shelper
|
Computational approaches for natural product-based drug discovery - Dr Angela Di Capua
|
Natural Products Discovery: toward new drugs for Parkinson’s disease - Dr Asmaa Boufridi
|
Going natural: the art of finding new drugs to target infectious diseases - Liliana Pedro
|
Compounds Australia - Australia's Chemistry at Your Fingertip - Professor Sally-Ann Poulsen
|
This event is followed by refreshments and networking.
NOTE: limited to first 30 bookings to attend tour. Up to 100 to presentations only.
