WiT is proud to present "Visualising Science"

"Visualising Science" will showcase intriguing and engaging examples from technology (VR), presentation on how to communicate science, preclinical imaging and STEM learning initiatives.  This event is open to WiT members and affiliates as well as children 12-17 years old to enable you to share this event with your children to promote and encourage a STEM initiative theme. 


The evening will be opening with networking and technology demonstrations, followed by concurrent presentations from Dr Tamsin Terry for professional development and some seriously fun science demonstrations from Street Science!


5:30-6:30pm: Food and drinks on arrival with technology demonstrations and networking:

  • Virtual Reality experiences with Immerseport - ImmersePort is a Brisbane based software development studio that brings concepts and real world solutions to life through virtual reality, augmented reality 360° film creation.  Immerseport will be showcasing virtual reality environments and games using the Samsung GearVR virtual reality headsets.  Immerse yourself in VR experiences to take you to places you have never been, with full 360 degree visualisation.
  • Scientific images from the Preclinical Imaging Core Facility at TRI - Our venue sponsor will be showcasing some amazing images from their Core Facility
6:40-7:20pm Presentations that will be concurrent in two rooms
  • “Visualisation to sell Your Science": how to design and deliver effective oral presentations with Dr Tamsin Terry - Hate presenting, love presenting? Either way, oral presentations are an integral part of scientific careers, and a hugely transferable skill for any career. Does your data get the best slide deck and delivery it deserves? Do you know how to sell your science? This workshop will provide practical tips on presentation structure, design, slide content and delivery and an interactive presentation editing session leaving you with a simple action plan to improve your presentation skills immediately and over the longer term.
  • Street Science - Street Science provides educational services to excite and engage Australia's youth, with fully qualified presenters who are experienced and energetic teachers with a passion for Science Education. Street Science will present science in an appropriate manner for each age group of participants, whilst also ensuring engagement and interest.
