Financial Security: What haven't you taken into account

Are you making the right decisions about your financial future now and in retirement?

This workshop will cover possible solutions to gender inequality in superannuation and how the development of strategies around these solutions might be effective in reducing the current gender disparity in superannuation outcomes and how a combination of these strategies may be more powerful in ensuring a more equitable superannuation outcome for women.  It will also incorporate strategies for growing, protecting and managing your wealth demystifying the secrets of an investment manager.

Your presenters:

Michael E. Drew is a consulting financial economist specializing in investment governance and asset allocation strategy.  Michael is Director of Drew, Walk & Co., and Professor of Finance at Griffith University.  His research has appeared in the Journal of Pension Economics and Finance, the Journal of Portfolio Management and the Journal of Retirement.  He has been invited to make submissions and testify before numerous committees, including the U.S. Department of Labor and Securities Exchange Commission joint hearing on Target Date Funds.  Concurrently, Michael serves as a specialist member of the QSuper Investment Committee and a member of the Investment Advisory Board of the Petroleum Fund of Timor-Leste.  Michael believes a key feature of superannuation plan design is the assumption that members have long and continuous periods of employment over which contributions are made. This heroic design feature has led to debate on the adequacy of superannuation plans for those with interrupted employment, particularly the adverse impacts this has on the retirement income prospects of women.
