Women in Technology in partnership with the Queensland Government, through the Office for Women, invite you to participate in our upcoming Be Board Ready Series which aims to enable women's participation and leadership at board level with conversation, professional development, networking, mentoring and continued community engagement opportunities in a facilitated online environment.

This event series aims to:

  • provide insights and learnings from experienced board directors 
  • broaden networks by connecting a talent pool of women
  • increase opportunities and provide high visibility for women to be appointed to board positions across all sectors
  • contribute to the leadershjp, participation and economic security of women
  • support the Queensland Government’s gender diversity targets for Government bodies
  • provide ongoing support via a community linkedin group

Session One: panel discussion on how the role of the board is evolving, the skills required and the role and opportunities for women in science and technology followed by break out discussions and networking

Dr Sally Pitkin AO is a Company Director with thirty years corporate experience. She has served as a director and board member of ASX 200 companies, Federal Government owned business enterprises, private companies, regulatory bodies and non-profit organizations. Sally is a former member of the National Board of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, the Chair of the Institute’s Corporate Governance Committee, a Fellow of the Institute, and a former President of the Queensland Division. She holds a Doctorate in the field of governance, and is an Adjunct Professor with the UQ Business School and a former Fellow of Bond University.


Abigail Cheadle has had an international executive career growing practices for global services firms Kroll, KordaMentha, Deloitte and Ernst & Young: restructuring and recapitalising sovereign debts, financial institutions and listed entities (most notably increasing the market cap of BFI Finance from USD29 to over USD400 million amongst others); and identifying fraud and managing regulatory investigations and litigations.  She is an experienced ASX listed company NED and ARCC Chair previously or currently on: SurfStitch, Qantm, Isentia, and Shriro. She also currently sits on the board of large unlisted public companies: Indue and LGI.  Abigail is a commercially minded and forensically trained Chartered Accountant with 30 years’ experience working in Australia, Asia (17 years), Russia and Jordan.


Liz Crawford is a senior executive and business leader in professional services, with experience on the boards of not-for-profit organisations operating in the intersection of art, disability, mental health and social inclusion. She is currently on the board of Accoras, a mental health services provider which promotes good mental health for all. She also chairs the Futures and Nomination Committee.  Liz also works with boards and CEOs in Australia, PNG and internationally to develop their strategic leadership, so that they can achieve their aspirations and do so with soul.  




Session Two: panel discussion on the importance of female leadership participation at board level for the economic security of all women, particularly in the post pandemic landscape followed by break out discussions and networking

Heather den Houting is a CEO and non-executive director with experience gained in human services across large not-for-profit organisations, church, government and the private sector. Heather has driven significant transformation programs in complex and diverse settings, including cultural change programs and has governed through corporate incidents involving substantial compliance, legal and reputational risk and is experienced in responding to Royal Commissions.

Marina Go is an experienced Chair and non-executive director, and has been involved in a range of industries including media, retail, e-commerce, energy, health and manufacturing. Her involvement ranges from start-ups to publicly listed companies, not-for-profits and sports boards.  She is Chair of the Super Netball Commission, Ovarian Cancer Australia and The Walkley Foundation, and a non-executive director on the boards of Energy Australia, 7-Eleven, Autosports Group, Pro-Pac, Adore Beauty and Booktopia.

Christine Bartlett is an experienced CEO and senior executive. Christine is currently a Non-Executive Director of Mirvac, Sigma Healthcare, TAL, and Reliance Worldwide. Christine is a member of the UNSW Australian School of Business Advisory Council, Chief Executive Women and the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Previously she has been Chairman, The Smith Family, and a director of GBST, PropertyLook, and icare.


Your panel moderator:

Tracey Spicer AM is a multiple Walkley Award winning author, journalist and broadcaster who has anchored national programs for ABC TV and radio, Network Ten and Sky News.  The inaugural national convenor of Women in Media, Tracey is one of the most sought-after on stage and online keynote speakers and emcees in the region. In 2019 she was named the NSW Premier’s Woman of the Year, accepted the Sydney Peace Prize alongside Tarana Burke for the Me Too movement, and won the national award for Excellence in Women’s Leadership through Women & Leadership Australia.
