WiT's Inspiration Series Presents - Inspiring Women in STEM Breakfast Panel 

The WiT Inspiration Series invites you to join us for an inspiring morning!

Be inspired and motivated by the achievements and contributions our panel have made and how they are paving the way for women in STEM. These inspiring women will talk about their career journeys, the hurdles and challenges they have overcome and the foundations they have laid for a more diverse and flexible future for our STEM community.

Your ticket includes:

  • The opportunity to network with attendees 
  • Tea, coffee and a light breakfast snack will be served during networking
  • Inspiring insights from our Panel
  • Q&A time with our Panel

Timing:

  • 7:30am - 7:55am - Arrivals and networking
  • 8:00am - 9:30am - Welcome, panel and Q&A time
  • 9:30am - 10:30am - Networking for attendees who wish to stay after the panel

Your host and moderator

 

Iyari Cevallos has over 15 years of global experience managing unique and complex engagements in the resource, banking, telco, energy and tourism sectors. She has a proven record of delivery in operational performance, digital transformation change, governance and risk management in both the public and private sectors.

As a passionate leader in fast paced and evolving environments, she has been fundamental in influencing and leading positive change, contributing to a more equitable, just and sustainable society.

Meet your panel!

Dr Kaylene Cooper, Manager of Wonder of Science

Dr Kaylene Cooper is a passionate STEM educator, Manager of Wonder of Science and a vertebrate palaeontologist. Kaylene joined Wonder of Science, a STEM education program at UQ, as Program Officer in 2018 and has managed the program since 2022. Kaylene’s PhD research focused on extinct kangaroos from the Riversleigh World Heritage Area in northwestern Queensland, Australia. While volunteering as a Young Science Ambassador from 2016 – 2018, during her PhD, she developed a passion for STEM education which sparked her career as a STEM educator and science communicator. Kaylene received a Bachelor of Science majoring in Zoology with First Class Honours in 2013 and a PhD in 2018 from the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. During this time Kaylene also described a new genus and two new species of ancient kangaroo from Riversleigh. She then went on to work as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Queensland University of Technology before beginning work with Wonder of Science. She also has extensive experience as a science communicator having participated in school visits, STEM events, social media campaigns, news interviews, and TV interviews such as Totally Wild.

Rebecca Peet, Director - Capability, Queensland Government Customer and Digital Group

Rebecca Peet is a future focused, socially and environmentally driven public sector leader. Her goal is to contribute to developing a digitally enabled, efficient, effective and proactive public service where everyone wants to come to work. With a wealth of expertise across IT strategy, architecture, program, product and change management, Rebecca is passionate about promoting diversity and inclusion in the tech industry. Her most recent focus is delivering programs to widen the pipeline of digital talent in Queensland to increase participation of underrepresented cohorts including women, First Nations people, people with a disability, people who are neurodiverse and those living rurally and remotely.

Kelly Addison, Director - Women in Technology

Kelly Addison

Kelly Addison is an accomplished CPA with over 20 years’ experience in Finance and Software Implementation and a proven track record of leading successful finance teams across multiple industries, including listed companies and not-for-profits.

Kelly’s passion for innovation and emerging technology has been a driving force throughout her career. She has a deep understanding of how technology can enhance processes and create efficiencies and is constantly exploring new ways to leverage technology to improve outcomes for clients.

Over the past 8 years, Kelly has focused on innovation projects, software design and architecture within the legal industry. Her expertise has enabled her to develop cutting-edge solutions improving operational efficiency and delivering significant value to clients.
