Senior Development Engineer - Griffith University

The Learning & Teaching Solutions Team in Digital Solutions are currently looking for a Senior Development Engineer - Design / UX Lead. This position will lead a small team of designers / developers who are responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining a range of applications for use in Learning & Teaching activities across the University.

  • Specialist application design and User Experience (UX) team leadership. Provides detailed and specific advice and contributes to the organisation and teamwork planning, tracking and delivery. Collaborates with other specialists, where appropriate, to ensure advice given is appropriate to the needs of the organisation.
  • Software design. Designs software components and modules using appropriate modelling techniques following agreed software design standards, patterns, and methodology. Recommends designs which consider target environment, performance security requirements and existing systems. Reviews, verifies, and improves own designs against specifications. Leads reviews of others’ designs. Models, simulates, or prototypes the behaviour of proposed software to enable approval by stakeholders, and effective construction of the software. Verifies software design by constructing and applying appropriate user engagement and testing methods.
  • Programming/software development. Designs, codes, verifies, tests, documents, and refactors complex programs/scripts and integration software services. Contributes to selection of the software development approach for projects, selecting appropriately from predictive (plan-driven) approaches or adaptive (iterative/agile) approaches. Applies agreed standards and tools, to achieve well-engineered outcomes. Participates in reviews of own work and leads reviews of colleagues' work.
  • Testing. Accepts responsibility for creation of test cases using own in-depth technical analysis of both functional and non-functional specifications (such as reliability, efficiency, usability, maintainability and portability). Produces test scripts, materials and regression test packs to test new and amended software or services. Utilises automated testing tools where available and contributes to the definition of automated testing capability. Interprets, executes and documents complex test scripts using agreed methods and standards.
  • Release and deployment. Assesses and analyses release components. Provides input to scheduling. Ensures release processes and procedures are maintained and improved.
  • Application support. Maintains application support processes and checks that all requests for support are dealt with according to agreed procedures. Uses application management software and tools to investigate issues, collect performance statistics and create reports.

What we can offer
This is a full-time continuing position based at our Nathan campus. As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other campus locations.

The full time equivalent base salary will be HEW Level 8 range $105,59 - $118,792 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package will be in the range $123,547 - $138,987 per annum.

To be successful in this role, you will have recent experience leading a team of front application developers and have a high level of knowledge and experience designing and delivering high quality applications with a heavy focus on elite UX, interface design and sustainability.
