What you'll do
The Senior Safety Advisor (Biosafety and Regulated Substances) is responsible for the coordination and provision of key work health and safety activities across the University aligned to the University’s Safety Strategy and aimed at achieving a positive safety culture across the University community.
The role will manage the University’s compliance and risk management obligations for biosafety, biosecurity, genetically modified organisms, and medicine and poison risk, partnering with stakeholders to design and implement Work Health and Safety Management System (WHSMS) elements to facilitate compliance with obligations. This role is an enabler for critical research, learning and teaching activities. Apart from above you will,
- Establish key working relationships across the organisation, identifying one’s self as a key advisor and enabler for activities related to biological materials and regulated substances.
- Finalise key elements of the University’s Work Health and Safety Management System (WHSMS) related to biological materials and regulated substances.
- Establish and implement effective systems and processes to review low and high-risk activities involving biological materials, and ensure impacted researchers, educators, and the Institutional Biosafety Committee is well rehearsed in these processes.
What will help you succeed
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in a safety, biosafety, or a relevant discipline with experience in the successful management of stakeholder relationships and working with regulators.
- Detailed knowledge of legislation, laboratory standards and regulatory processes relating to biological safety, medicines and poisons, and biosecurity in a large complex workplace.
- A high-level understanding and demonstrated ability to apply risk management practices, contemporary safety frameworks, and systems.
- Demonstrated ability to leverage connective technologies to share ideas, improve workflow, and achieve team outcomes.

Salary: Total remuneration range $119,894 to $137,674 pa (includes salary range of $101,304 to $116,328 pa, employer super contributions of 17% and annual leave loading)
